Post-Doctoral Research Grants (IAS)

About this program

The International Association of Sedimentologists offers Post‑Doctoral Research Grants providing seed funding up to €2,500 to early‑career post‑PhD researchers to establish proof of concept or to fund project elements not covered elsewhere; up to four awards are made in each spring and fall round. Applicants must be full IAS members who were awarded their PhD within the past seven years (career breaks may be explained) and must not have previously received an IAS Post‑Doctoral Research Grant; unsuccessful applicants may reapply once if not funded from other sources. Applications (submitted via an IAS member account using the provided Word template) must include a combined research proposal and project plan with itemized budget (≤3 A4 pages), a CV (≤2 pages) and a signed letter of support from the supervisor/Head of School (≤1 page); eligible costs are direct research expenses (fieldwork, lab analyses, specialist equipment excluding computers) and exclude salaries, conference travel, overheads, per diems, tuition and summer bursaries. Deadlines are 31 March and 30 September (notifications by 30 June and 31 December); recipients must accept the award, provide bank details, and submit a 4–6 page scientific report and financial statement within one year for payment to the recipient (not the institution), and must acknowledge IAS in outputs.
