About this program

The Society for Latin American Studies (SLAS) offers up to 15 Postgraduate Research Support Grants of up to £1,000 to fund research costs such as travel for fieldwork or archives, image rights, indexing, translation, co‑production, essential equipment and caring-related expenses. Applicants must be postgraduate SLAS members based at a UK higher-education institution (any nationality); priority is given to PhD students and to those with no access to institutional support, with one award possible for an MA student intending to pursue a PhD. A referee’s statement must be submitted by email to the SLAS Secretary; projects and travel must occur within the same calendar year, trips commencing within one month of the deadline are ineligible, and conference-only trips are excluded unless part of a wider research trip. SLAS pays awards upfront to UK bank accounts, requires justification for all budget items (including sustainable travel measures), retention of receipts and return of any underspend, and expects a short blog post (≈300–500 words) within one month of return.
