About this program

The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, in partnership with Spinal Research, solicits pre‑clinical (non‑human) research to advance new or repurposed drugs, biologics, and devices for neuroprotection, regeneration, and plasticity in spinal cord injury at the pre‑IND/pre‑IDE development stage (excluding full drug screens, IND/IDE‑enabling studies, and clinical trials). Awards provide up to $250,000 USD for 1–2 years; budgets must be in USD, include direct and indirect costs (indirects capped at 10%), and subcontracting to CROs is permitted. Principal Investigators must hold a doctoral or equivalent terminal degree and be beyond the postdoctoral level; applicants may be from academic or private institutions or companies worldwide, but only one application is allowed per PI/lab/company and financial relationships with corporate applicants must be disclosed. Funding is milestone‑based with frequent progress communication, requires open data sharing compliant with FAIR principles (with provisions for patenting as needed), and intellectual property is retained by the grantee.
