Program Project Award (PPA)

About this program

Foundation Fighting Blindness offers the Program Project Award (PPA) to fund cross-disciplinary, collaborative research targeting retinal degenerative diseases (e.g., retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, Usher syndrome), supporting large or technically complex projects unified around a single hypothesis with clearly defined milestones; funding may be up to $500,000 per year for up to five years. Projects must address knowledge or therapeutic gaps identified by the Foundation (or an approved equivalent) and be of a scale beyond a single-investigator effort. Prospective recipients must submit a Letter of Intent via the Foundation’s online portal and, if invited, a full application per the published guidelines; awardees must submit regular scientific progress and financial reports. Multi-investigator teams are eligible, and applicants from underrepresented racial, ethnic, and gender groups, as well as individuals with disabilities, are strongly encouraged to apply; inquiries may be sent to grants@fightingblindness.org.
