About this program

Foundation for Physical Therapy Research offers Promotion of Doctoral Studies Scholarships to support APTA‑member licensed physical therapists and physical therapist assistants pursuing academic research doctorates (PhD, EdD, DSc) with the intent to pursue careers in physical therapy research. Annual awards support the pre‑candidate coursework phase ($7,500) and the doctoral candidacy phase ($15,000); applicants must reapply each year. Multiple named and topic‑specific awards (some restricted to pre‑candidate or candidate phases) are available across areas such as geriatrics, neurology, pediatrics, acute care, cardiovascular/pulmonary, pelvic health, and health services research.
