About this program

The Sidney R. Baer, Jr. Foundation provides research and program grants supporting mental health initiatives, with primary emphasis on schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Funding is awarded through a competitive process that begins with a Letter of Intent accepted November 1 through March 1, followed by an invitation-only full application due May 31. Eligible applicants are U.S. charitable organizations with IRS 501(c)(3) and 509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2) status that spend no more than 7% of grant funds on administrative expenses; individuals, medical researchers, foreign institutions, and international activities are ineligible.
