Researchers in the Global South (RGS) Grants Program

About this program

The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) funds the Researchers in the Global South (RGS) Grants Program to support substantive (non‑pilot) research on social issues conducted outside the United States, emphasizing Global South and Majority World settings; awards typically provide up to $1,000 for pre‑doctoral graduate students (preference for dissertation‑stage) and up to $2,000 for Ph.D. researchers, with exceptional awards possible above $2,000. Applicants must be SPSSI members (individual or joint applications allowed) and projects that benefit Global South communities and align with SPSSI goals are prioritized. Required materials include a cover sheet, ≤100‑word abstract, project narrative (recommended 5–7 double‑spaced pages) describing purpose/theoretical rationale, methods and analysis, budget and requested amount, investigator résumé (and faculty sponsor recommendation for students), plus documentation of IRB or equivalent human‑subjects review (or a statement describing ethical protections if no IRB exists). Online submissions are preferred, recommendation letters may be emailed to awards@spssi.org, only one application per deadline is allowed, and annual deadlines are October 1 (fall) and May 1 (spring).
