Responsible Computing Challenge (RCC) — Curricular grants for U.S. universities

Mozilla Foundation and the Mellon Foundation are jointly funding the Responsible Computing Challenge (RCC), awarding up to ten U.S. institutions grants of up to $125,000 each over two years to develop innovative, interdisciplinary undergraduate curricular models connecting Computer Science/STEM with the Humanities and Social Sciences. Grants support faculty-led projects that embed socially responsible computing into curricula and pedagogy, require participation in RCC’s global community of practice, and emphasize interdisciplinary inquiry, student engagement, and local community partnerships. Eligible applicants are accredited U.S. institutions of higher education; proposals are ineligible if they create a standalone “ethics in computing” course without curricular integration, primarily serve non-undergraduate audiences, prohibit open licensing of outputs, or list PIs who cannot accept institutional grants. All submissions must demonstrate curricular integration, representative interdisciplinary teams, embedded student activities, and meaningful involvement of relevant local community organizations.
