Robert A. Welch Award in Chemistry

About this program

The Robert A. Welch Award in Chemistry, administered by The Welch Foundation, recognizes and fosters basic chemical research with significant, positive benefits to humankind and carries a monetary prize of $500,000 (to be shared among recipients if applicable). Any individual who has made important chemical research contributions—preferably those not previously honored in a similar manner—may be considered; nominations are reviewed by the Scientific Advisory Board and the final selection is made by the Foundation’s Board of Directors. The award is conferred only when a worthy candidate is identified and recipients are expected to attend the award ceremony and banquet held each October.
