About this program
The Modern Greek Studies Association offers the biennial S. Victor Papacosma Essay Prize for the best graduate student essay on a Greek subject, including a $500 cash award, up to $500 in travel and accommodation reimbursement to attend the MGSA Symposium, and a one-year membership. The winner is invited to present the paper at the Symposium and may be proposed for publication in the Journal of Modern Greek Studies, subject to peer review. Applicants must be current MGSA members enrolled in an M.A. or Ph.D. program at a North American institution and submit an unpublished, anonymous 6,000–9,000-word essay primarily in English addressing the post-Byzantine Greek world or its diasporas. Submissions are due July 31, 2028, with separate cover-sheet and anonymous-essay PDFs.
