Scholar Award (Scholar Program) for Mid-Career Scientists

About this program

The Edward Mallinckrodt, Jr. Foundation’s Scholar Award provides $125,000 annually for four years to support mid‑career investigators advancing research toward independent NIH or other funding. Awards are for tenure‑track faculty in their 5th–8th year at U.S. institutions holding M.D. and/or Ph.D. degrees; the program is by invitation only, with 31 institutions each eligible to nominate two candidates. Applications must include a 1–2 page lay summary, a five‑page scientific proposal, NIH‑format biosketch, institutional letters of support (including a dean’s letter and brief confirmation of the internal selection), a four‑year Excel budget with detailed justification (no overhead), and will require timely annual progress reports; funds are restricted to the approved budget and noncompliance may result in termination.
