Schomburg Center Scholars-in-Residence Program

About this program

The Schomburg Center at The New York Public Library offers long-term and short-term Scholars-in-Residence fellowships to support scholars and writers working on projects that require access to its extensive resources on African diasporic history, politics, literature, and culture. The Center is a world‑renowned repository with unique manuscript and archival collections, publications, photographs, films, audio recordings, and visual art, and the program has funded hundreds of fellows since 1986 with support from major foundations. Applicants should be scholars or writers whose research would benefit from the Center’s holdings and must have the legal right to work in the United States, as NYPL does not sponsor employment visas.
