About this program

The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) offers Small‑Scale Events Advancing SPSSI (SEAS) grants of up to $1,000 to fund small events—such as speaker series, symposia, mini‑conferences, and networking initiatives—that raise awareness of SPSSI and recruit new members; funds may cover publicity, speakers’ honoraria, travel reimbursement, printing, and other direct event costs (not SPSSI dues or organizers’ honoraria) and are disbursed against submitted receipts. Applications must include a cover letter with organizer contact information, a brief proposal (≤1,000 words) describing the event, anticipated outcomes, and how SPSSI will be featured to attract members, plus a one‑page budget listing other funding sources. Eligible applicants are current regular dues‑paying SPSSI members (graduate students may apply with a faculty co‑applicant); non‑members may apply if they submit a membership application with the proposal. The regular deadline is September 15 annually, with time‑sensitive proposals reviewable ad hoc anytime if indicated to Justin Belsley, and awardees must submit a brief post‑event report within 30 days.
