SMI Grants (research and conference support)

About this program

The Society for Musicology in Ireland (SMI) offers peer‑reviewed grants of up to €550 for musicological research and up to €300 for conference presentations (national or international, with or without travel). Applicants must be SMI members in good standing for at least six months and the scheme targets postgraduate research students, non‑affiliated scholars, or academics without recourse to institutional funds; applications are required at least two months before the activity and should include a short CV, project description, proposed budget, details of other awards, and a short letter of support where relevant. Awards are paid only after completion upon submission of receipts to comply with charitable status; recipients must acknowledge SMI support, submit a short report within 12 months, and the Society may limit award numbers or amounts. Eligible members may apply once per membership year (March–March) and cannot receive more than two awards within a three‑year membership period.
