About this program

The AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF) funds innovative research to improve canine health across priority areas—including aging, behavior, blood disorders, bone cancer, sports medicine and rehabilitation, residency training, and clinician-scientist fellowships. CHF issues periodic Requests for Proposals (RFPs) listed on a submission calendar (e.g., Spring 2027 deadline Feb 23, 2027; Fall 2027 deadline Aug 3, 2027) and all active/upcoming RFPs require a pre-proposal and an invitation to submit a full application; program-specific deadlines include residency applications due May 15, 2026 and a Canine Degenerative Myelopathy RFP due June 1, 2026. Eligible applicants are investigators and veterinary professionals (including residency and fellowship candidates) who meet the criteria on each RFP page; prospective applicants should submit the required pre-proposal, confirm program-specific eligibility and deadlines, and sign up for CHF investigator updates to receive notifications.
