About this program
The AAFP Foundation offers Student Externship Matching Grants to AAFP constituent chapters and chapter foundations to support medical student externships in Family Medicine. Each $1,250 Foundation award requires a $1,250 chapter match, creating a $2,500 grant for a one-on-one clinical or research experience with a family physician mentor. Only AAFP chapters and chapter foundations may apply; medical schools and students are ineligible. Applicants must secure the matching funds before submitting a Letter of Intent, identify mentors and participating students in collaboration with an academic institution or residency program, and apply between February 1 and April 1.
