About this program
The AAFP Foundation’s Student Externship Matching Grants Program provides $1,250 matching awards to AAFP Constituent Chapters and Chapter Foundations to support $2,500 medical student externships in Family Medicine. Grants fund one-on-one clinical or research experiences connecting medical students with family physician mentors through academic institutions or residency programs. Applicants must secure the required $1,250 chapter match before submitting a Letter of Intent and are responsible for identifying mentors, matching students, administering the externship, and completing required reporting. Applications are accepted February 1 through April 1; medical schools and individual students are not eligible to apply.
