Summer Student Fellowships for Eye/Vision Research

About this program

FFS funds eye and vision research through Summer Student Fellowships ($2,500 for 2–3 months), Post-Doctoral Awards ($22,500 for one year, start July 1–Sept 1) and Grants-in-Aid ($22,500 for one year, start July 1–Sept 1), plus occasional specialized named awards tied to donor or partner priorities. Summer Fellowships target undergraduate, graduate and medical students (typically first exposure to vision research) and generally exclude students already receiving other stipends. Post-Doctoral Awards are for individuals within three years of a doctoral degree or clinical residency who have not previously held an FFS fellowship, require mentor supervision, disclosure of supplemental support, and must comply with NIH NRSA salary limits; fringe benefits are not provided. Grants-in-Aid support junior faculty within three years of their first eye/vision appointment to fund pilot projects but may not cover the applicant’s salary, fringe benefits, or institutional overhead.
