Target ALS grant program for ALS research and drug discovery

About this program

Target ALS funds collaborative, multidisciplinary, international research to accelerate ALS drug discovery and development, currently soliciting consortia for a Biomarkers RFA (open April 7, 2026) to identify biomarkers for patient stratification and disease progression. Applicants may be based anywhere in the world; Principal Investigators are expected to be laboratory or industry-equivalent leaders (postdocs are generally not eligible to serve as PIs) and consortia must execute IP-sharing agreements among partners. Only one application per funding opportunity is allowed (except for In Vivo Target Validation), and PIs with two or more active competitively-awarded Target ALS grants are typically ineligible to apply. Target ALS does not fund indirect costs, permits up to 15% of an award for research-associated direct costs, and requires a fellow per lab dedicated at 75% effort.
