Teaching Development Grants

About this program

The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) offers Teaching Development Grants of up to $2,500 (two awards annually) to fund small-scale events and initiatives—workshops, trainings, learning communities, mini-conferences, and networking activities—that promote teaching about the psychological study of social issues and increase SPSSI membership. Funds reimburse event-related costs (publicity, speaker honoraria and travel, printing) but may not be used for SPSSI membership dues or organizer honoraria; payments are made based on submitted receipts. Applicants must be current SPSSI dues-paying members or include a membership application with their proposal; graduate students may apply with a faculty co-applicant, and proposals must explain how the event will promote SPSSI membership and further SPSSI’s teaching goals. Required materials are a cover letter with contact information, a brief proposal (≤1,000 words), and a one-page budget listing other funding sources; regular submissions are due February 15 annually, with time-sensitive proposals accepted for ad hoc review, and awardees must submit a short post-event report within 30 days.
