The Freshwater Challenge, led by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and a coalition of international conservation organizations, is a global initiative aimed at restoring degraded rivers, lakes, and wetlands while protecting vital freshwater ecosystems. It seeks to restore 186,411 miles of rivers and 864 million acres of wetlands by 2030, emphasizing nature-based solutions and intact ecosystem conservation. Eligible applicants include governments, NGOs, and local communities actively engaged in freshwater restoration and conservation efforts. Participation requires a commitment to collaborative public, private, and community engagement to achieve the initiative’s goals.
