The Myrna F. Bernath Fellowship

About this program

The Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR) offers the Myrna F. Bernath Fellowship of up to $2,500 to support scholarly research in U.S. foreign relations history by women, nonbinary, and/or trans scholars. Awarded biennially in odd years, funds may defray research expenses, including for scholars based outside the United States conducting research domestically. Applicants must be SHAFR members, with preference given to graduate students and scholars within five years of completing their PhDs; self-nominations are due February 1 of odd years. Awardees must submit a brief report on fund usage within eight months.
