The Ocean Foundation (TOF) is an international community foundation that channels donor-driven grants, donor-advised funds and institutional grantmaking services to support marine conservation, habitat protection, species recovery, capacity building and ocean literacy, with average awards around $10,000 and a preference for multi-year, long-term investments. It prioritizes projects addressing coastal and ocean threats, island resilience, science diplomacy and DEIAJ principles, and directs more than half of grantmaking to work outside the United States. TOF does not accept unsolicited full proposals; Letters of Inquiry are accepted on a rolling basis via grants@oceanfdn.org and are reviewed as funds and donor interests arise (committee reviews quarterly), while any open RFPs are publicly posted. Eligible applicants include individuals and organizations worldwide but grants are donor-driven or by invitation, applicants undergo due diligence, indirect costs should be limited to 15% and TOF will not fund religious organizations or election campaigns.
