Truog Soil Science Outstanding Dissertation Award

The Soil Science Society of America (SSSA), supported by the Emil Truog estate, offers the Truog Soil Science Outstanding Dissertation Award to recognize an outstanding Ph.D. dissertation in soil science; the award includes a certificate, a complimentary ceremony ticket, and $2,000, with applications accepted January through March 25 (nominations for the 2025 award require a Ph.D. awarded in 2024). Eligible nominees must have received their Ph.D. in the prior year, be living at time of nomination, and may not be previous recipients; each department may submit one nominee (two if it granted more than eight Ph.D.s). Members of the SSSA Awards Committee, the SSSA Board of Directors, and the ASF Board of Trustees are ineligible to serve as nominators or nominees. The Award Committee makes the final determination whether a thesis qualifies as "soil science" and may request the complete dissertation for review.
