Wadsworth International Fellowship (Doctoral Students)

About this program

Wenner‑Gren Foundation’s Wadsworth International Fellowship awards $20,000/year (renewable for up to two additional years, with a possible extra dissertation write‑up year) to support doctoral training in anthropology at institutions offering international‑level training; funds cover travel, living, tuition, research costs, and related expenses but not institutional overhead, and about five fellowships are awarded annually. Applicants must be from countries with limited advanced training in anthropology, have a pending doctoral admission at a qualified host institution outside their home country, and secure both a host sponsor at the host institution and a home sponsor in their country of origin. Priority is given to candidates who have not yet begun graduate training abroad and who are likely to return to academic positions at home; applicants already in doctoral programs are eligible only if in their first year and will not begin fieldwork until year three. Applications (in English) require transcripts, CV, a detailed budget, application responses, and letters of support sent directly to internationalprograms@wennergren.org; the deadline is March 1 for fellowships beginning the following academic year (portal opens two months earlier, decisions by May 1), and applicants/hosts must comply with U.S. and OFAC regulations.
