Walter J. Jensen Fellowship for Study of French Language, Literature, and Culture

About this program

Phi Beta Kappa's Walter J. Jensen Fellowship supports at least six continuous months of study or research in France focused on standard French language, literature, and culture. The award includes a stipend of $17,000 (adjusted annually) and a single round‑trip economy ticket; recipients must submit bi‑monthly progress reports in English and French and a final report suitable for scholarly publication. Applicants must be U.S. citizens with a bachelor’s degree in French language and literature (minimum 3.0 GPA), demonstrate superior competence in French per AATF standards, and show that active use of French is or will be central to their career; preference is given to Phi Beta Kappa members and to educators at the secondary level or above, though membership is not required.
