William L. Garrison Award for Best Dissertation in Computational Geography

The Association of American Geographers (AAG), through the Marble Fund for Geographic Science, offers the biennial William L. Garrison Award for innovative dissertations applying advanced computational approaches to geographic science and space-time analysis. The award includes a $4,000 cash prize, certificate of merit, and a $1,000 travel grant for recipients attending the AAG Annual Meeting in person. Candidates may be affiliated with any doctoral-granting higher-education institution worldwide, and dissertations deposited and accepted between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2027, are eligible for the 2028 award. Nominations must be submitted by a doctoral advisor or dissertation committee member by October 15, 2027, and include a signed nomination letter, complete vita, and a 1,500-word abstract emphasizing the dissertation’s innovative computational methodology.
