The American Association of Geographers (AAG), via the Marble Fund for Geographic Science, offers the biennial William L. Garrison Award for the best dissertation in computational geography, providing a $4,000 cash prize, a $1,000 travel grant for recipients who attend the AAG Annual Meeting, and an invited formal presentation at the meeting. The award emphasizes innovative computational approaches to space–time analysis and discourages routine application of standard software. Eligibility is worldwide for candidates affiliated with institutions authorized to award the doctorate whose dissertations were deposited between 1 September 2025 and 31 August 2027, with nominations submitted by the doctoral advisor or a member of the dissertation committee. Initial nominations must include a signed institutional nomination letter, the candidate’s CV, and an extended abstract (max 1,500 words) describing the computational methodology and contributions; selected nominees will be asked to provide the full English-language dissertation (or translation), institutional certification of deposit and award date, and a signed agreement to participate in the award ceremony, and must comply with the AAG Professional Conduct Policy.
