Women in Physics Group Grants

About this program

The American Physical Society’s Committee on the Status of Women in Physics (CSWP) offers Women in Physics (WiP) Group Grants of up to $1,000 to support student-led undergraduate and graduate WiP groups in recruitment and retention activities such as outreach, mentoring, career workshops, guest lectures, and social events. Funds are disbursed as a single lump sum to be used within a one- or two-year period ending Oct. 31 and may not be used for travel to meetings, individual scholarships, marketing/advertising, or university overhead/indirect costs. Undergraduate and graduate students at U.S. and international colleges may apply on behalf of their institutional WiP group, but the faculty advisor must be an APS member (applications with non‑APS advisors or requests over $1,000 will be rejected); priority is given to proposals showing sustainability and to groups without recent WiP support. Applications are submitted as a single PDF (cover sheet, leadership summary, two‑page narrative, budget justification, advisor letter and department chair letter if different), awardees must complete brief surveys and an end‑of‑term report, and APS has paused the WiP Group Grants project for 2026 (no reviews or disbursements that cycle).
