AAI Public Policy Fellows Program (PPFP)

About this program

The American Association of Immunologists (AAI) offers the one‑year Public Policy Fellows Program (PPFP) to prepare early‑career biomedical researchers to advocate for NIH funding and science policy through monthly virtual training, special projects (e.g., drafting advocacy materials), participation in the AAI annual meeting, and a culminating Capitol Hill Day; the program runs May 1–April 30 and is structured to allow fellows to remain at their home institutions. The fellowship provides hands‑on advocacy experience and communication skills development, with travel for an in‑person Capitol Hill Day covered by AAI when applicable. Eligible applicants must have earned a PhD, MD, or equivalent within the past 15 years, be AAI members in good standing, reside and work in the United States, be committed to a career in biomedical research, and demonstrate strong communication and policy interest. Applications require the online PPFP form with a CV and two recommendation forms (at least one from an AAI regular member not serving on AAI Council or the Committee on Public Affairs); fellows are selected by the AAI Committee on Public Affairs.
