Accessible Design History Grant

About this program

The Design History Society funds the Accessible Design History Grant to remove structural barriers that prevent design history researchers, students, and practitioners with disabilities from full participation by covering disability-related costs such as assistive technology, mobility-related travel, personal assistance, sign-language interpretation/captioning, and other essential access needs; the scheme is open year‑round until annual funds are allocated. A total of £3,000 is awarded each year and distributed across successful applications, with individual awards up to £1,000 allocated on the basis of merit and need. Eligible applicants are DHS members who self-identify as disabled, those seeking to create access for disabled colleagues or participants, and students and early-career researchers within five years of their PhD; applications are anonymised and reviewed by the DHS Executive Committee, submitted via the DHS grants webpage to designhistorysociety@gmail.com (do not include CVs), and applicants are notified within three weeks of the submission deadline.
