Accessible Design History Grant

About this program

The Design History Society offers the Accessible Design History Grant to remove structural barriers that prevent disabled researchers, students, and practitioners from fully engaging with design history by funding disability-related costs such as assistive technology and software, mobility-related travel, personal assistance, sign-language interpretation or captioning, and other essential access expenses. A total of £3,000 is available annually and will be distributed across meritorious applications with individual awards up to £1,000; applications are anonymised, reviewed by the DHS Executive Committee, and accepted year‑round from 1 January until funds are exhausted. Eligible applicants are DHS members who self‑identify as disabled as well as those seeking funding to provide access or support for disabled colleagues, collaborators, or participants—students and Early Career Researchers (within five years of completing a PhD) are particularly welcomed; one application per person per year is permitted, CVs should not be submitted, and completed application forms or access queries should be sent to Jenna Allsopp‑Douglas at designhistorysociety@gmail.com.
