ACLS Fellowship and Grant Programs

About this program

The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) administers a broad portfolio of fellowships, grants, and awards supporting research, writing, digital and public humanities, and scholarly publishing across the humanities and interpretive social sciences (e.g., history, literature, art history, philosophy, anthropology). Awards are adjudicated by peer-review committees and target scholars at multiple career stages through named programs such as the ACLS Fellowship Program, Luce/ACLS, Mellon/ACLS, and others. Eligibility and deadlines vary by program; applicants should review each competition’s description and FAQs carefully, many programs require an ORCID iD, and while scholars may apply to multiple programs they may accept no more than one ACLS fellowship per competition year. ACLS also provides applicant support via program office hours and webinars and affirms an emphasis on inclusive access for first-generation, historically marginalized, non-tenure-track, and international scholars.
