About this program

American Neuromuscular Foundation Development Grants provide seed funding for promising investigators to launch research on muscle and nerve disorders, offering up to $50,000 over two years (total award $100,000 including indirect costs) plus complimentary AANEM membership, a Muscle & Nerve subscription, AANEM Annual Meeting registration when the research is presented, and a $1,500 travel award to present results. Proposals must directly address a muscle or nerve disorder covered by the AANEM and are submitted using the Foundation’s Application (Part A) and Research Proposal (Part B) by the posted timeline (Letter of Intent Jan 10; Application Feb 28; Notification Apr 5; funding begins Jul 1). Applicants must hold an MD, PhD, DSc, DO or equivalent, be part of an institutional research team with necessary resources, have at least 18 months of post-degree laboratory training, and meet timing rules (PhD/DSc applicants must be in a postdoctoral fellowship or within 60 months of their degree; MD/DO applicants must be in or within 60 months of completing residency/fellowship).
