American SIDS Institute: Research Grant Letter of Intent (SUID)

About this program

The American SIDS Institute solicits two-year research grant Letters of Intent (LOIs) of up to $80,000 to support innovative, self-contained studies on Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) that are likely to lead to subsequent extramural funding, with priority for projects aligned with the GAPS top ten priorities (e.g., physiological mechanisms, genetics, brain development, epidemiology, and sleep-environment risk factors). Principal investigators must hold a faculty appointment or equivalent at a U.S. university, hospital, research institution, or medical examiner’s office; graduate students in postdoctoral programs may apply as PI only if a faculty advisor is listed as a Co‑Investigator with a biosketch and letter of support. LOIs are limited to a two‑page proposal (including scientific rationale, specific aims, methods, and anticipated outcomes) plus NIH-format biosketches for PI and key personnel, and must be submitted as a single PDF to research@sids.org; awards may include technical salary but not PI salary or indirect costs. Submitted LOIs will be reviewed by the Institute’s Research Advisory Council for scientific merit, responsiveness, and potential to yield extramural funding or publications, and select applicants will be invited to submit full applications.
