Archie K. Davis Fellowships (North Caroliniana Society)

About this program

The North Caroliniana Society offers 4–5 competitive Archie K. Davis Fellowships of $4,000–$5,000 each to support travel and subsistence for scholars conducting archival research and publication on North Carolina history and culture, with particular encouragement for pre‑twentieth‑century studies. Applicants are assessed on qualifications, individual need, the quantity/quality/location of sources, planned length of research stay, publication or dissemination plans, and the project’s potential to advance public understanding of the state’s history. Preference is given to researchers who have surveyed available resources and can identify specific bodies of records and repositories; projects in the earliest stages or with overt political/issue‑oriented agendas are unlikely to be funded. Submit by March 1 a two‑page single‑spaced proposal (contact details, working title, research description, prior work, publication plans, specific repositories and anticipated trip lengths) plus a CV and three references as a PDF to Jason Tomberlin or four paper copies to Wilson Library; awards announced about April 1.
