About this program

The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation’s Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. Research Fellowship awards stipends up to $5,000 (may be split among recipients) to support research that uses JFK Library archival materials, with priority given to Kennedy administration foreign policy (especially the Western Hemisphere) and domestic policy (particularly racial justice or natural resources conservation). Applicants are strongly encouraged to consult a JFK Library archivist before applying; awards are announced December 1 and funds must be used within 24 months and are disbursed as Bank of America checks upon arrival at the Library (international applicants must arrange to cash U.S. checks). Eligible projects must utilize JFK Library collections; there are no specified applicant categories, and international researchers may apply. Applications must be emailed to Kennedy.Fellowships@nara.gov and include the application form, a brief proposal (≤4 pages) describing the project and collections to be consulted, two recommendation letters, a writing sample (≤10 pages), a project budget (use of funds, other support, matching funds statement), and a CV; additional materials will not be considered.
