About this program

The American Schools of Oriental Research (ASOR) funds research fellowships through its affiliated centers—the Albright Institute of Archaeological Research (AIAR) in Jerusalem, the Cyprus American Archaeological Research Institute (CAARI) in Nicosia—and via the Baghdad Committee which recommends recipients for the James B. Nies–funded Mesopotamian Fellowship, supporting archaeological and related humanities research in the Near East and Eastern Mediterranean. AIAR administers roughly 28 fellowships (with up to $252,000 awarded annually and additional Associate Fellowships for senior, postdoctoral, and research scholars), CAARI offers multidisciplinary fellowships for study of the region’s archaeology, history, and culture, and the Baghdad Committee oversees Mesopotamian research awards. Applicants of all nationalities and career stages may be eligible, but specific eligibility, stipend levels, application procedures, and deadlines differ by center; prospective applicants should consult each center’s website for detailed requirements.
