About this program

Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds offers travel grants to junior scientists to support short-term (up to three months) experimental or in silico projects and participation in practical training courses (≥50% hands‑on) in basic biomedical research. Eligible applicants are PhD students, medical (MD) students during their doctoral thesis, postdoctoral researchers, and recent graduates who have applied for a PhD but have not yet started; grants are for European citizens working in Europe and non‑European citizens conducting their MD/PhD/postdoc work in Europe or using the grant to work in Europe. Applicants must meet time‑since‑qualification limits (≤11 years for PhD/MD students and graduates; ≤13 years for postdocs), and BIF does not fund stays longer than three months, conference attendance without practical training, clinical electives or studies, applied/industrial projects, company‑organized courses, or requests to supplement inadequate existing funding; scope questions can be addressed by sending a half‑page project summary to the BIF secretariat.
