Brandywine Dissertation Fellowship

About this program

Hagley Museum and Library’s Brandywine Dissertation Fellowship offers Ph.D. candidates a 3–4 month residential award—$10,000 plus free on-site housing, an office, and amenities—to support dissertation research that makes substantial use of Hagley’s collections; fellows must work on-site at least four days per week and participate in Center events. Applicants must be active Ph.D. candidates whose dissertation addresses important historical questions and demonstrates superior intellectual quality and a persuasive methodology tied to Hagley materials. Applications (due March 31) must be submitted as a single PDF and include a 150‑word abstract, CV, a dissertation proposal or ~1,500‑word project description, and a 500‑word summary of relevant Hagley resources; a writing sample is optional and applicants are strongly encouraged to consult Hagley reference staff at askHagley@hagley.org before applying.
