Breakthrough T1D Postdoctoral Fellowships

About this program

Breakthrough T1D offers three‑year Postdoctoral Fellowships to support early‑career scientists conducting type 1 diabetes–related research, with human‑subject studies on long‑term complications (diabetic eye, kidney, and cardiovascular disease) now eligible under its Research Strategy. Awards provide a stipend (amount varies by experience), a USD 5,500 annual research allowance, require at least 75% effort, and do not permit indirect costs. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (MD, PhD, DMD, DVM, DO, or equivalent), not be concurrently in an internship or residency, and are ordinarily within five years of their terminal degree (extensions possible for bona fide career/COVID interruptions). Proposals are submitted via RMS360 and must include a sponsor-affiliated training plan, a 7‑page research plan suitable for a three‑year fellowship, a 2‑page future career statement, and three confidential recommendation letters.
