Canine Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Residency Program

About this program

Offered by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in partnership with the AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF), the Canine Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Residency Program funds residency training to prepare veterinarians for ACVSMR board certification and to advance evidence‑based care for athletic, working, and rehabilitative canine patients. Grants support clinical training, didactic education, and mentored research with priority for programs emphasizing evidence‑based medicine in sports and rehabilitation. Eligible applicants are institutions with an accredited ACVSMR residency program and board‑certified ACVSMR diplomates who will serve as faculty mentors and commit to resident training, research supervision, and support of the board certification process. Applications are submitted via the program’s Request for Proposal process; prospective applicants should review the guidelines and eligibility before the next cycle opens.
