Community Diversity Fellowship

About this program

The American Psychiatric Association Foundation offers the one-year Community Diversity Fellowship to support psychiatry residents pursuing culturally competent care for minority, vulnerable, and traditionally underserved communities. Fellows receive professional development, mentorship, leadership training, attendance at APA events, governance experience, and a community mental health field placement of up to 15 hours per month; up to 10 fellows may be selected for July 2027–June 2028. Applicants must be APA members, at least PGY-2 in an accredited U.S. or Canadian psychiatry residency, and have at least one year of training remaining; international graduates and non-U.S. citizens are eligible, and applicants from underrepresented backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Applications require a CV, 500-word personal statement, and three psychiatrist references, including the training director, and are due March 15, 2027, at 11:59 p.m. HST.
