Diversity Leadership Fellowship

About this program

Funded by the APA Foundation, the Diversity Leadership Fellowship develops psychiatry residents’ leadership and cultural-competence skills for teaching, administration, and evidence-based mental health and substance-use services for minority and vulnerable populations. The two-year program (July 2027–June 2029) supports attendance at two APA Annual Meetings and two Fellowship Forums, governance participation, mentorship, and professional networking, with up to 20 fellows selected annually pending funding. Applicants must be APA members, at least PGY-2 in an accredited U.S. or Canadian psychiatry residency with two years of training remaining; international graduates and non-U.S. citizens or residents may apply, and members of underrepresented groups are encouraged. Applications require an online form, CV, 600-word personal statement, and three psychiatrist references, including one from a training director or department chair, and are due March 15, 2027.
