Dr. D. Walter Cohen Teaching Award

The American Academy of Periodontology Foundation, sponsored by Carestream Dental, offers the Dr. D. Walter Cohen Teaching Award—a one-time $10,000 supplement paid in the fourth quarter after the AAP Annual Meeting to support the launch of beginning periodontal educators' careers. Applicants must be in the third year of a nonmilitary accredited periodontal postdoctoral training program in the United States as of the application deadline (all materials due June 1) and intend to pursue full‑time periodontal teaching and research in the U.S.; the award is expressly a supplement, not a replacement for institutional support. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to periodontal education, excellent character and integrity, a record of academic and personal achievement, and aptitude for teaching and research; recipients are selected by a committee of periodontists.
