Edwin Valdiserri Correctional Public Psychiatry Fellowship

The American Psychiatric Association Foundation, supported by a gift from Ronald Valdiserri, M.D., M.P.H., offers one Edwin Valdiserri Correctional Public Psychiatry Fellowship annually, pending funding, for residents seeking training, mentorship, and leadership development in correctional, public, community, or forensic psychiatry. The two-year fellowship (July 1, 2027–June 30, 2029) sponsors participation in APA meetings and related professional conferences and provides opportunities for APA governance and networking. Applicants must be APA members enrolled at least as PGY-1 or PGY-2 in an accredited U.S. or Canadian psychiatry residency with two years remaining, demonstrate commitment to public psychiatry and underserved populations, and secure institutional support for at least 40 hours of annual volunteer service in a correctional facility. Applications require a CV, 500-word personal statement, and three psychiatrist references, including confirmation from the training director or department chair; the deadline is March 15, 2027.
