Edwin Valdiserri Correctional Public Psychiatry Fellowship

About this program

The American Psychiatric Association Foundation offers the Edwin Valdiserri Correctional Public Psychiatry Fellowship to provide residents interested in public, community, or forensic psychiatry with correctional-setting experience, training, mentorship, and professional development. One fellowship is awarded annually, pending funding, for a two-year term from July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2029, with support for APA and related professional meetings. Applicants must be APA members in at least PGY-1 or PGY-2 of an accredited U.S. or Canadian psychiatry residency with two years remaining, demonstrate commitment to underserved populations, and secure institutional support for at least 40 hours of annual correctional-facility volunteer service. Applications require a CV, 500-word personal statement, and three psychiatrist references, including support from the training director or department chair; the deadline is March 15, 2027.
