ESPID Fellowship Award

About this program

The European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID) offers annual Fellowship Awards to support 18-month to 4-year basic or clinical research projects using advanced techniques to improve child health through prevention or management of infectious diseases; awards provide up to €110,000 in total support (paid in annual instalments) and must start as soon as possible after the award and no later than 1 March following the application year (applications due 31 October). Funds are paid to host institutions to provide personal support for the fellow (salary, tuition, direct personal costs and travel) and may not be used for research consumables, other staff salaries, or institutional indirect costs. Applicants must be Young ESPID members in good standing at the deadline, hold a professional degree in medicine, nursing, pharmacy or allied health (preference for physician‑scientists in paediatric infectious diseases), be on a clear trajectory toward a clinical academic PID career, and commit at least 50% of their time to the fellowship; previous ESPID fellowship recipients and current CSAA or ESPID Board members are ineligible. Applications in English are submitted via ESPID’s online awards system by 31 October and must include a cover letter (addressing supervision, time allocation and any significant career breaks and disclosing any AI tools used), the application form, a costs table, and host/home letters of support confirming supervision, space and equipment; annual progress reports and a final report are required.
