Gerald Westheimer Graduate Fellowship

About this program

The Leo Baeck Institute awards the annual Gerald Westheimer Graduate Fellowship to support Ph.D. students conducting research on the history and culture of German‑speaking Jewry, offering grants of up to $3,000 to be used by the end of the grant year. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in a Ph.D. program and submit a CV, full research description, financial plan, evidence of highest degree and Ph.D. enrollment, and two letters of recommendation; doctoral candidates must also provide one letter from their advisor and official graduate and undergraduate transcripts (post‑doctoral recommendation requirements are noted in the guidelines). Decisions are announced in January, recipients must submit a brief final report, and applications (proposal and supporting documents) should be emailed to Dr. Frank Mecklenburg at fmecklenburg@lbi.cjh.org.
