IBM PhD Fellowship Award

About this program

IBM's PhD Fellowship Program supports outstanding doctoral research that aligns with IBM's technology focus areas, providing country‑dependent awards (U.S. recipients typically receive $40,000) and fostering university–industry collaboration. Nomination is by invitation only and must be submitted by a faculty member using a university‑domain email; nominees must be full‑time PhD students, generally within two years of expected graduation, must remain in the same program for the award period, and applicants from or at institutions in U.S. embargoed countries or who hold comparable corporate fellowships are ineligible. Recipients are selected for research excellence, alignment with IBM focus areas, academic record and faculty endorsements, receive an IBM mentor, and are encouraged (but not required) to undertake an IBM internship during the award year.
